Description
The Salvage & Soul Blackgum is a legendary Southern hardwood known for its interlocking grain and a density that makes it nearly impossible to split. Most people see a downed Blackgum tree as a problem for a woodchipper; we see it as the only timber tough enough to serve as a professional-grade bar surface. This specific slab was salvaged right here in Jacksonville—a “Fallen Giant” that we intercepted to ensure its hundred-year history stayed on the First Coast.
The Industrial Foundation To match the weight of a slab this dense, we didn’t just build a base—we engineered a chassis. Featuring heavy-gauge industrial steel pipe footrests and a forged steel frame, this bar is a study in our “Wood & Steel” philosophy. While the natural Blackgum provides the warmth to match a wood-accented home, the hand-welded steel provides the unyielding structure required for a lifetime of use.
The Forever Home Commission Designed specifically for a local couple’s “forever home,” this piece was built to be a landmark. We stripped away the fluff and focused on raw materials: 3-inch thick hardwood and American steel. There are no veneers and no shortcuts here. It’s a “Beauty from Tragedy” commission, built in our shop to be the place where the next fifty years of family stories are told.
The Design Process Like all of our high-end work, this bar started with a conversation, not a checkout screen. We use a 72-Hour Design Window to pull specific slabs from our mill partners, ensuring the grain and the geometry of the steel are a perfect match for the architecture of your space.
